Geographic Origin
Solapur district is the undisputed center of India's pomegranate export industry; Ahmednagar and Nashik are secondary. The Bhagwa variety — deep red, thick skin, high juice content — is the export default. Solapur's dry climate suits pomegranate and reduces disease pressure. Export value grew +30% in 2025; UAE (₹305 Cr), Bangladesh, and Netherlands are the consistent top three markets for Indian pomegranate exports.
Harvest Cycle & Availability
When It's Harvested
Two flowering cycles give India near year-round pomegranate availability — unique among Indian fresh fruits. Ambe Bahar (Jul–Sep harvest) is the larger crop; Hasta Bahar (Dec–Feb harvest) is secondary. Buyers running annual contracts typically cover both cycles in one agreement. The Hasta Bahar window overlaps with grape season, so exporters managing multiple fresh products must plan container allocation across both. Request a year-round supply schedule when enquiring.

Frequently Asked Questions
Buyer Questions, Answered
Bhagwa (Sindhuri): dark red, thick leathery skin (reduces bruising in transit), sweet flavour, 15–17° Brix — the dominant export variety from Solapur/Ahmednagar. Arakta: slightly deeper red skin, thinner skin (more bruising-prone), comparable Brix — more commonly seen in domestic and regional markets. For export to the UAE, UK, Netherlands, and Bangladesh, Bhagwa is the standard. Specify Bhagwa if your buyer is a European importer.
Most Indian fresh produce has a single seasonal window — pomegranate is the exception. Ambe Bahar (July–September) is the larger crop (~65% of volume), while Hasta Bahar (December–February) provides a second window. This means annual supply contracts are possible without off-season gaps. Buyers who plan ahead can lock volume in both windows at pre-season pricing rather than chasing spot availability.
EU buyers require a pesticide multi-residue MRL test report per batch (EC 396/2005 limits). GLOBALG.A.P. farm certification is commonly requested by EU/UK retail chains. India's pomegranate has appeared on the RASFF system for pesticide non-compliance — we address this by sourcing from MRL-screened orchards and providing batch test reports proactively with every EU/UK shipment.
Standard MOQ: 1×reefer FCL (~200–250 MT for bulk). Payment: 60% advance + 40% against BL copy. Terms improve — 50/50 on second, 40/60 on third. LC at sight for repeat buyers. Two harvest windows per year — book ahead of each to secure volume and pricing.
