Origin & Traceability

Sourced from Karnal — Heart of Haryana's GI-Tagged Basmati Belt

Geographic Origin

Karnal district, Haryana — part of the officially GI-notified Basmati growing region at the foothills of the Himalayas. One of the world's top Indian Basmati rice exporters operates from this belt. Karnal alone accounted for 55.3% of Haryana's Basmati export value in 2025 (₹3,675 Cr). MRL compliant Basmati rice — pesticide residue tested per batch against EU/UK limits — is sourced and shipped FOB Mundra, CIF any port.

Farmer Partnership

Sourced from GI-notified Basmati belt with full traceability — paddy procurement through aging, milling, and container loading documented end-to-end.

Harvest Cycle & Availability

When It's Harvested

Basmati is a single-season Kharif crop — but unlike fresh produce, the rice is deliberately aged after harvest. That aging is what develops the characteristic aroma and cooking elongation ratio that Basmati buyers worldwide pay a premium for. GI-tagged 1121 Sella Basmati, Pusa 1509, and Traditional Basmati are all available; specify your variety and aging tier when enquiring.

Kharif

Single monsoon-season crop — sown with the rains in June–July, harvested in October–November.

Storage Life
9–24 months aged

What This Means for You

  • New crop (Nov–Jul): budget-friendly, milder aroma — suitable for bulk or blended use
  • Aged crop (Aug onward, 9–12mo+): stronger aroma and elongation — specify aging duration when ordering
  • Aged stock is stored dry (not perishable) — supply is consistent year-round; the constraint is aging time, not spoilage

Secure Your Allocation

New Kharif crop arrives November. Reserve aged-stock allocation early if you need guaranteed 12-month+ aged rice for a specific ship month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buyer Questions, Answered

How do you verify this is genuine Basmati — GI-tagged and DNA-tested?

All Basmati is sourced from the officially GI-notified Basmati belt (Karnal, Haryana). APEDA Basmati RCMC registration confirms legal authorisation to export. DNA purity and grain-length testing (≥6.61mm raw grain) available per batch to confirm variety authenticity — Pusa 1121, Pusa 1509, or Traditional Basmati. Test report accompanies every shipment on request.

What does MRL compliant Basmati rice mean for EU and UK importers?

EU/UK pesticide MRL compliance means every batch is tested against maximum residue limits set by EC Regulation 396/2005 and UK MRL schedules — the primary reason Indian Basmati shipments face RASFF alerts. We supply test reports per batch showing residue levels against destination-market limits. Since the India-UK FTA activated July 2026, Basmati enters the UK at zero tariff — but MRL compliance remains the quality gate for every shipment.

What is the difference between 1121 Sella, Pusa 1509, and Traditional Basmati?

1121 Sella (golden/steam parboiled) is the most-exported variety — longest grain (8.3–8.4mm raw), highest cooking elongation ratio, preferred by Middle East and UK wholesale. Pusa 1509 is shorter (≥7.5mm), faster-cooking, preferred for food-service and restaurant supply. Traditional Basmati is the original GI-tagged heirloom variety with the strongest aroma — commands the highest FOB premium. Tell us your target market and price point and we'll recommend the right variety.

Does the India-UK FTA reduce tariffs on Basmati rice imports to the UK?

Yes. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement, effective July 2026, eliminates the 3.5% MFN tariff on Indian Basmati rice entering the UK. UK buyers should specify 'India-UK FTA preferential rate' on their purchase orders — we supply the Certificate of Origin in the FTA-required format to unlock zero-tariff entry.

What is your MOQ and can I order a sample before committing to a full container?

Standard MOQ: 1×20ft FCL (~24–25 MT). Sample orders of 1–5kg available for first-time buyers — cost adjusted against your first bulk order. Specify your target variety (1121 / 1509 / Traditional), form (Raw / Sella / Steam), and aging requirement (new crop vs 9–12mo aged). We send a formal quotation within 24 hours.

What payment terms do you accept for first-time buyers?

60% advance + 40% against BL copy. Terms improve progressively — 50/50 on second order, 40/60 on third. LC at sight available for repeat buyers. Currency: USD default, EUR on request.
